Forgive me for hi-jacking this thread. I am hoping that Mark will respond.
I have a reverse problem in my 2002 Powerstroke. The tranny was rebuilt about 100,000 plus miles ago. What is happening is when I place the truck in reverse, when the truck is pointing down hill, and attempt to back up, something is binding. The truck does move backward but it wants to stall the engine. On flat ground or pointed up hill no problems. Other than that the transmission functions perfect. Is there perhaps a clutch pack that has more space in it than it should, which is allowing a disk to fall towards the front of the truck when pointed down hill?

Thanks,
