unfortunatly my first post isnt a good one. i have a 2000 f-250 7.3l competely stock. my reverse has been acting up sense i bought it. what it does is it engages pretty slow, my brother has the same truck and it takes no time to engage. it always engages slow but some times when you give it throttle in reverse after letting it go into gear it kind of shutters while in reverse...not quite a grinding sound but something not good. i put the edge chip and attitude deal in it and now it seems to happen more often but not every time. was thinking of taking it to a tranny place to have it looked at b/c i am stumped. what do you guys think it could be?
Have you changed tranny fluid lately? I have an '82 gmc and the trans would slip in reverse, but not in the forward gears. I changed the trans. fluid and there's no problem now. Sorry I can't be much help but it could be a start. Good Luck!!
I don't really know the details of what causes it... mine also is slow to get into reverse. Going from park to reverse or drive to reverse, it usually just takes 1-2 seconds to engage, then it's normal... just slow to engage. I've read a few other threads in the past and it seems to be a fairly common thing. I don't know that it's necessarily a problem with the tranny, though.
the slow in to reverse isnt the bad part..i cant deal with that. the shuttering while in reverse taht it does 60% of the time is what i am worried about and wondering if it is something much more serious then i am expecting. the guy i bought it from did take it to a ford dealer and they hooked it up to a computer and it said nothign was wrong..changed the fluid and such...no shavings, so they did nothing about it.
