Smile Tail gate to heavy

My tailgate on my 2011 F350 seems to have become very heavy over the years. Is there an adjustment inside it to the spring to make it easier to raise and lower.

There’s no spring to adjust that I am aware of.

You can spray wd40 on the pivot points; it may be that you have corrosion and gunk build up there that caused some resistance. Can just pull the tailgate off and give them a good cleaning.

This is an aftermarket assist; no personal experience though. https://www.deezee.com/product/truck-tailgate-assist/

Yes Thanks, The pivot points are clean and free. It just seems the tailgate has gotten heavy over the years. Maybe its old age. ( In me). I will look into that tailgate assist. Thanks

Maybe it is heavier. If the drain holes are clogged there might be a few pounds of material found it’s way inside. Do you haul bulk materials with the truck. Try flushing water into the tailgate and check.

I have one of those and it only addresses the fall rate. It does zilch to assist with the lifting.

I also have the DeeZee assist for lower. It works pretty darn good, but yes nothing for lifting the tailgate. I'd recommend this for the lowering at least. It will allow you to pull the latch and then just let it drop.

IF after you clean it out and IF you don't have a torsion assist from the factory then this is an option.

I installed both the easy-down and the Hopkins torsion bar. Both work great and prevent sprained wrists while trying to lower the gate with one hand (when you stuff in the other hand).

A torsion bar will have some assistance up and down. It is the same principle as a torsion bar front end used on many vehicles instead of leaf or coil springs. When lowering, it loads the spring with tension to allow the tailgate to lower slower. When raising the tailgate, it unloads the spring torsion to aide in raising it.
