tail gate ex down assist

For my SD I use the dee zee tail gate down assist.

But what does everyone use for the F150's. Mine is a 2014 but probably the same basic tailgate for 2009-2014 models I would assume?

My 2013, and my 1979. I raise/pull on the handle and lower the tailgate with my arms.

The first time I use the tailgate on my 2013, I thought it was really poorly made. It didn't seem to have any metal in it. Then I found out that the truck had a "Lift Assist" option. I'm guessing it's a coil spring inside the tailgate. It feels almost weightless.

Not a coil spring Bob. It's a long torsion rod that spans the width of the tailgate. Think of a torsion bar that the 97-03 F150 and Expy's use instead of coil springs.

I like the lift assist in principle, but it makes it annoying to drive with the tailgate down. It bounces like crazy. I like to drive around the ranch with it down when I'm frequently loading/unloading things, but I don't like listening to it bang up and down. I actually had my 350 close its own tailgate once when I hit a sizeable chuckhole.

I added the dee zee and it is nice. I couldn't find any other option for a down assist anyway so it was the only choice.

That is good to know. I just looked at the window sticker for my 2010 that I recently picked up and it has "lift assisted tailgate". I thought that it worked pretty easily and now I do not need to spend the money to install the Dee Zee setup.

the dee zee just helps in lowering it.

The one the wife got (dee zee) did not fit correctly.

that is what the wife got but I guess maybe the part that goes into the tailgate was defective. It would not draw up tight to secure it.

I have one on my truck and it works perfectly.

Maybe just try another one.
