I would recommend using linseed oil on the wood, then cover with marine grade spar varnish to seal, plus when it fades, you can sand it down and re-apply it

the current color of the wood complements to truck colors very well..hopefully your varnish doesn't make it much darker...looks good.
Yes Sir.! The idea is not giving color to the wood, just keep the wood color, so we are in the same boat I would say.! 👍

The wood has been treated with oil (diesel) to prevent from rotten. When it will be completely dry I will apply a clear varnish as I don’t want to modify the natural color, and as dlburch says, that wood color complements the truck’s color.
