My 78 F150 SB build

I have been doing work to my 78 F150 Ranger 4x4 Short Bed Flare Side for a little over a year now and getting back into it now that I have my other truck to where I am happy with it. Figuered it was time to start posting progress and pictures along the way with what I am doing.

This is how she looked when i first got her.

After a few months of searching I found a flareside bed in good shape at the local junk yard. So i sold the old bed that was far beyond gone for the same amount i paid for the flareside bed. While the bed was off i decided to clean the rear frame up and install a new gas tank and shocks.

Then i moved onto the 300. The carb starting spewing gas out around the base plate and got tired of dealing with it so now this is the current work I have just finished up this sunday. I still have to take some pics tonight of everything together.

Picking up two doors this weekend and floor panels have been ordered. I already have the cab corners and I think that is the extent of major patch work needed. The fenders, hood, core support, rockers, front cab mounts, and all the front end is really solid. Going to send the bed out to have it blasted so we can start addressing the work needed to get it all right. Somone started work on it, but didnt do it the right way. As work moves on I will be sure to post pictures in the coming weeks as things get done.

Nice job! Interior is real clean, outside is catching up! I like those rims too! I've got a set but the offset is wrong.

Did you change out the rear disks or complete rear-end?

Be looking forward to watching your project moving forward!

Haha yeah they were custom alright. They were real trashy and I didnt care for them at all. They quickly found there way into the trash. The interior is now guted at the moment. The only thing left is the seat so that I can drive it to and from our shop to do work on it.

I bought the truck with the rear discs. They are the disc brake set up off of a 77 lincoln versailles (sp?). It was a little tricky to replace all the stuff and had to do some machining on the rotors to make them work. My brother took the new rotors to his work and clearanced out the inside of the rotor to fit over the spindle and redrilled for the correct lug pattern.

Nice! I will be looking forward to watching this build as you move along on it. The flareside and shortbox trucks have been a favorite of mine since as far back as i can remember. Keep up the good work.

Gotta say i am just a little bit more than jealous that you have the 300 straight in your truck.....I love my 390 but would actually prefer it if i had a 300 in my truck.

I cant wait to drive it with all the new goodies I just put on it. Think i may back her out of the side yard and take it for a spin this weekend once i make sure all is good and the radiator is topped off. Think i just put enough water and coolant in it to be safe while running it in the driveway. I certainly have to put a muffler or longer pipe on it. It is dumped right under the cab at the moment and its dragster loud haha.
