Red face HPOP Spring/disk question

Jim here with questions on my early year 99 7.3 with 207k...Looking at some upgrades after blowing the o-ring on one of the HPOP fittings. I am looking at after market HPOP lines including crossover line.
1 - I see conflicting info on the Spring/Disk. some say that they are not needed others say engine wont run right, others say long crank times.....What is the real truth?
2 - Is there an extra sensor wire on the early models. the plug end looks very similar to the IPR plug, but I have wires going to all the sensors I see. Ran the wire radially everywhere and nothing to plug into....

Help...:-)

sensor wire with no home

That's your IPR plug. You definitely need that hooked up. It hooks up towards the bottom of the hpop on drivers side. Look down behind the fuel bowl you should see a hopefully shiny cylinder looking thing with a black plug. That's where it goes.

I just did my lines last weekend and pulled the springs out. No difference in crank times at all. If you pull them then the crossover isn't needed, they accomplish the same thing. My kit came with 1 also, I kept it to use for hooking passenger head to ICP for pressure test. I recommend the JIC lines just because you can find those fittings most anywhere and they'er easier to take on and off.

Udsuth78 had a great thread about these very subjects last week. I have linked it below for your review.

Then the plug has to be for the exhaust back pressure valve EBPV. That's the only other plug that style in the valley that I've seen. Bottom front of turbo pedestal.

The unresolved plug/lead is not long enough....It will radius about 10" and is located below the intake spider....Again, all of my existing sensors have plugs...I am thinking it is a generic harness that fits multiple 7.3 models and one of those models has a sensor that I do not have....

Your answer lies here. Your EBPV is either removed or disconnected.

What Walleye said. ⬆️
That’s the first thing I thought when I saw the photo. Mine has been taped up and dangling near the spider for many years now.

Isn't the EBPV on the front side of the HPOP? The wire is way too short...won't reach...

No that's the exhaust back pressure sensor EBPS. The EBPV is at the base of the turbo pedestal. It can be pretty hard to see but if you still have one that's where the plug goes. If you do a search for the EBPV you'll see that a lot of people either unplug it or delete it all together.

The EBPV connector is on the right side of this photo (stolen from RiffRaff site, thanks Clay)
Like someone mentioned it’s possible you have a deleted EBPV pedestal and no solenoid. Or it’s just not connected.

got it finally....I'll bet someone put a EBPV delete kit on it that I just found is available. I was confusing it with a EBPS on front of engine. Thank you all so much.
