Extremely frustrated. I have a 2019 F250 4x4 with about 27k miles. For the last 10k miles I have heard this clunking sound at low speeds. Seems to occur when hitting bumps or going in and out of my driveway or any area with a slope. So pretty much anytime the body of my truck moves I hear this clunking sound. I do have a 2.5" leveling kit installed which was done at the dealership. I can feel the clunk through the floor board and initially thought there was something going on at the front of my truck. I took it to dealer and after a day they said it was my tow hitch moving around. I took it on a short drive with a Ford mechanic and sure enough, no more sound. I felt stupid. A few weeks later, I start to hear the same clunking sound and my tow hitch is not on so I knew then that something else is going on. I took it back to dealership where they kept it for a week. They called me on a Friday to come pick up my truck because it may be a while getting to it because they were swamped. Being the understanding guy I am, I returned the loaner truck and picked up my truck with the clunking sound still happening. To help the mechanics, my father in law got in my truck while I laid on the ground (I know this is not the smartest thing) and he drove over me so I could narrow the clunking sound down. It is coming from the passenger side leaf spring bushing. You can stand beside truck and walk with it with your hand on the bed and feel the vibration as you hear the clunking. I took it back to dealership a month or so later and they kept it for a month. 3 weeks into that month, they called me and said it was the tow hitch (yes I had to put it back since I had already established it wasnt the tow hitch and told them this as well). I told him that it wasnt the tow hitch and repeated what I had previously told them that it was coming from the passenger side rear leaf spring bushing area. He said he would check again. The next day he called and said he had to go with his mechanics on this and agree it was the tow hitch. I again repeated myself about there is no way its the tow hitch. He called me back and said I was right because they had removed the tow hitch and heard the sound. A week later they called and said my truck was ready. I go up there and ask what it was. They said they disassembled and reassembled my EMERGENCY BRAKE! This made no sense to me but the sound had stopped so I didn't care. However, upon looking at the passenger side rear leaf spring bushing before I drove off, I noticed they had sprayed or applied some type of lubricant. Hey I didn't care because the clunking was gone and I was very happy. That lasted 5 days. The clunking is back!!!!!! I pay too much money a month for this truck. This is my dream truck and from what I have gathered, the clunking is not damaging anything, even though it sure does sound like it! WHAT DO I DO????? I am taking the truck back to the dealer today. Would rear leaf spring bushings make this type of sound? HELP PLEASE!!!!
A google search will literally turn up 1000s of posts about this issue. Everything from loose bed to binding leaf springs to loose spring u-bolts. There is no one size fits all fix and most people get the "it's normal" from the dealer, so you should probably take it as a win that they're even trying some fixes.
This clunking is unacceptable and I am glad they are actively trying to repair it but I will get rid of this truck if it continues and they are unable to repair it. If it were my old 73 F-100 clunking then I wouldnt have an issue but this truck is brand spanking new. Sure don't want to get rid of it considering I busted my tail to finally get to a point in life where I could actually afford my dream truck. Now its becoming a nightmare. Thank you for responding. I have googled and youtubed this issue for months and from what I gather, it is the leaf spring bushings. Just dont understand why, on a year old truck with less than 30k, it would go bad. The only thing I can assume is the leveling kit that was installed has something to do with it.
That is what I am going to ask dealer to do. Would rear u-joint make clunking sound only when body of truck sways? I figured if u-joint was going bad then it would clunk all the time or at least at low speeds. Never thought of that! BTW, my truck looks just like yours without the high fives and brush guard. Very sweet looking truck!!
Check the shock mount bolts to make sure they're really tight. If you swapped out your shocks and they weren't tightened down enough, that could cause the clunking. Some shocks have a little more 'slop' than others. I put a set of Icons on my older F150 and got rid of them for that reason. The hole in the shock for the bolt had a little play and it would clunk when going over bumps. Drove me nuts.

What was your outcome on this? I have a clunking from my right rear bushing.
