I have a 92 F-150, and I wanted to put tow hooks in the front under the bumper. My question is does anyone know if this is do able. If so who makes them and where can I get them? Thanks
Should be able to get a pair of 10,000 lb forged tow hooks with mounting hardware at your local autoparts store for about 10 bucks each.
I have leaf spring mounts under the front of my frame rails (F350 4x4), so what I did was put a front reciever hitch on the truck and made a tow hook attatchment that slides into the 2" box hitch opening and secures with a regular 5/8" hitch pin. It's real convenient to use and can be used in either end of the truck, since I have reciever hitch both front and rear. I like it because when I hook up a chain or tow strap, I'm pulling right from the center of the truck, using both sides of the frame equally. The front hitch is useful for other things too. I use it to mount my bike/cargo carrier to. It can be used with a portable winch as well.
The thing consists of one of those tow hooks I described earlier bolted to about a foot or so long piece of 2x2 OD by 1/4" wall square steel tube with a 5/8" hole through it for the hitch pin. Cost me about 20 bucks for the tow hook, hardware and hitch pin. The steel I had already in the garage leftover from another project.
