Hub is almost 1/16 out. He measured to try the next bigger race but it won’t clear the splines.
It sounds like he is just trying to turn it out instead of welding it up and turning it back to spec.
Brian if you can get it down here to me I can see if I can get it fixed. If we can't get it fixed or find something else reasonable, You might be able to talk me out off one of mine. I have a dana 60 I am going to put on dual wheel hubs. Already have the hubs, I hope, I know they came off a 60 but not sure now if it was a ford or not.
For anyone dealing with this issue, the hub from a 90s d50 is a direct replacement. I would have to investigate to see exactly what years as this one came from a junkyard, but spindle/hub/rotor are the same *EXCEPT* the d50 has 9/16” studs instead of 1/2” like the 79. I had already converted mine to 9/16” so it was no issue for me.
Someone probably ran it for a good while not noticing the hub lock had come loose and that will destroy the races register in the hub. I would check the spindle where the inner bearing seats up against the spindle. Once it has been ran loose, the bearing will beat up that shoulder and once that happens there is no flat surface for the bearing to seat against on the spindle and the hub lock will just keep coming loose. You can true that area with a lathe but be cautious, there isn't much material and of too much is taken off you will run out of spindle threads before the bearings are tight.
Cheap and easy locknuts is to use late model gm 14bolt parts. (I used 2005 parts). Key for the key way, nut with key way slot and spring clip.
simple , cheap at pick and pull and easy to install.
works on frt or rear 60’s
one final ? the hubs for the rear are the same as front for a dana 60 ,,,,,I have a dana 60 in my rear for my 75.....and swapped in a 78/79 front,,,when i did my front I went with the Grade 8 x locks
