Moose, are those just for rear or do they fit front also?
They say for the rear, but if I remember correctly, the dana 60 is the same size. I think this is the one Rich was talking about. I was planning on going to these if they fit when I do my 60 again. I got rid of the fold over locks years ago, been so long since I've been into mine not sure what I have. Seems like I got the nuts and lock from Springfield brake( Now Fleetpride) years ago, probably in the 90's. But I have never had any come loose like you have, That is a new one on me. Maybe if Rich decides to quit jumping back and forth across the pond, we'll have a Get together and meet everyone.
I’m pretty sure I put new ones in when I installed the axle, but they’ve been loose several times since so it’s possible. I have replaced one outside one, but no inner. This weekend I’ll tear into them and see what I can find. Hopefully I can find all the bearings local.
Are you preloading the bearings? I was taught to tighten the outer bearing fairly snug while spinning the tire. To make sure all play is taken up in the bearings. Then back off loose and tighten to 30 ft ps. I assume that you are replacing both cup and cone. I have seen some do only bearings. I also use engine pre lube on all bearings I install if it is a wet bearing and pack the bearings good with grease if grease cooled. I still use the palm of my hand. Good luck man
I feel for you I've been there but it's been a while since I've had the problem , when I do one I tighten them tell you can't turn wheel to seat them good then backem off and always if new bearing then a new cone for sure but you know that .The way I see it, it can't loosen unless your lock washer is jumping the keyway and getting into the threads ,seems like I've actually tig welded the tang and filed it back down to get a better fit I know the edges on those washers will round off along it to jump into threads
Does anyone have an accurate parts diagram/list for a 79 d60 front? I need numbers for deals, bearings and could use part numbers for those newer nuts/washers if someone has them.
Ok. What gives? Knocked out both races to replace, rear went back in fine but smaller one taps in easy and has a lot of slop. Was tight when I knocked it out, hub toast???
slop like you think it will spin if so that's china for you bring it back try another one or you could use some press fit loctite on it made just for press in stuff it works well
Brian, Not sure what part number you are trying to put in. But there are two races for that bearing LM104949.. LM104910 is OD of 3.228 and LM104911 is OD of 3.250 found a third one LM104912 OD of 3.265
Basically one is for Ford and one for Chevy. Can't remember which is which. If the bigger race is still sloppy, You can take to machine shop with your new race and they can weld it up and turn it down. Had to do that several different times back when you couldn't find used hubs very easy.
It’s the exact race I took out of it. Looks like it’s wallered out to me (even the old one is loose) 😑 where can I find a replacement hub if I can’t get it fixed? Al I find are chevy/dodge, is there a difference as far as hub is concerned?
I know Yarbourghs Machine shop 417-869-5344 in Springfield can repair it. One of the guys here at work uses Hood Machine in Bolivar (417) 326-7818. I have no experience with them.
Might try C&M Gear in Springfield, 417-862-4457 they keep a lot of used parts. If you call them, ask for Dave, tell him Moose sent ya.
Also CATT in Springfield might have a used one. 417-869-6016 ask for Gene, tell him Moose sent ya.
