be aware with those metal nipples not being plugged off theres a chance you have water in one or both hubs, which can wreak havoc on spindle/unit bearing
I don't know enough about those hubs to make any recommendations about repairing them. But yes, you can run a truck in 2WD with the hubs locked as much as you want.
I would probably lock both hubs, but honestly, running with one hub locked is a lot like what Chevy, Dodge and Jeep have done with a Center Axle Disconnect. It should result in the differential spinning like crazy but the ring, pinion and driveshaft sitting still.
You will be moving parts that don't move a lot, so if you have trouble with them it'll show up now. Stuff like an out-of-balance driveshaft or dry or worn out U-joints. But if everything is in good shape you'll be fine.
Thanks guys. I have only got one response on that thread, and he basically said "I don't know". Not alot of help. I will get some zip ties and try it out. If I can get to town Monday I am good for a few weeks, just don't want to miss another appointment with the health inspector.

There is no access to the (sealed) unit bearing, but you can see in BWST’s thread what is affected by water getting in there.
I LIKE the ESOF system. I use 4wd for like 10ft at a time. It’s nice to lock and unlock hubs from the inside the truck. Replacing the parts the BWST did should restore the auto hub feature if the hubs are still functional.
These zip ties are not big enough, but this is how you can secure the axleshafts in the center of the hub so they won’t bind and turn.
Rj, too bad you are not closer... I have some HVAC zip ties that are about 1/2" thick and 3' long... These things are beasts as far as zip ties go. Maybe look at sourcing some local to you or when you are getting your trailer inspected?

They sell them individually at homecheapo. Perfect!!!
Long way from homecheapo! Local true value had the hvac ones, I bought 6.
I went to Oriellys and asked about the hub/axle seals. They called them axle shaft seals, and said there are inner and outer. Do I need both?
I should add that I found a plastic ring around the axle floating free on the drivers side at the engine side of the knuckle, and on the passenger side on the wheel side of the knuckle.
