Thanks Sous. Got some reading material. Handy, as I just finished my latest Steven King book.
Noob, that sounds like a great plan. Not even sure why it's there with manual hubs anyway.
I will get some pics of the fun as I go.

It’s a VERY common conversion to drop in manual hubs instead of dealing with the vacuum system and all its potential issues.
The zip-tie trick worked like a charm. Not a whisper out of it for my 60 mile trip. Thanks a million, I would never have made my inspection without you guys.
don’t forget Rockauto or riffraff when you’re looking for parts too.
particularly if you have a part number handy I have saved a ton of money using rock auto.
I use Ventures Truck parts and only Spicer seals, stub shafts and non greasable u-joints. They have an eBay store.
Detroit Axle unit bearings are fine IF you need them.
The ebay link you provided says Saturday on parts, which happens to be my sons 8th birthday. Amazon usually only takes a few days with free shipping on prime for most things we order. All 3 of the kits I linked are spicer parts. First is no u-joints, second with u-joints, last with ball joints. I may work on it some this evening to beat the heat. I will get pics as I go in case you notice something else I should be concerned about while I am in there.
BTW, what is a stub shaft? That was not in the kit you linked, should I be looking for those too?
As always, I appreciate all the help.
I’ll check your links. You just don’t want Dorman or other aftermarket stuff here. It does not hold up well. Spicer is OE and the best quality.
Fingers crossed you don’t need the stub shaft. It’s the part of axle from u-joint out. If the bearing inside the unit bearing the axle (stub shaft) rides on is damaged, it often messes up the part of stub shaft it touches and shaft needs to be replaced.
Ok. I have removed the rotor, hub gears, lock ring, 1 washer (that's all there was) 4 rusted *** bolts inside the knuckle, but the hub will not come off the axle. I have beaten it with a rubber mallet to no avail. It appears to be rusted in place. Any suggestions?
This is the same side that had a caliper sieze up and smoked the brakes when I first got it. Notice the melted abs wire. I have tried to drive a screwdriver down into it behind the abs wire where there is a slight gap in the rusted shield thing, no luck there either. What am I missing?
