F250 Speedometer not working.
I have read a heap of topics on it but they all seem to have other things happening as well as the speedo problem including ABS lights and the like.
My problem is just the speedo not working.
It happened a little while a go so I removed the cluster to see if I could see anything and I also removed the sensor on the rear diff to see if I could find anything there.
I put it all back together after not finding anything unusual and the speedo worked fine for a little while.
It started to jump around a bit while driving then it just stopped all together.
I just replaced the rear sensor and still nothing.
Anyone got any ideas of what I should check for?
It could be you are seeing early warning signs of upcoming electrical issues. To that end, it wouldn't hurt to track down the primary grounds (firewall and driver's side fender I think captures them all) and remove/clean/reinstall or replace as necessary.
I have done this in the past on many types of electronic equipment that was in a harsh environment. More so in my military life than in my civilian life. Although, I did this to the control panel for our oven the other day. The buttons were not working, so I performed the steps above I mentioned and it has been good ever since. There was a small bit of oxidation on the contacts, but it was barely noticeable.
If that doesn't work, let us know and we can see what pinpoint test or troubleshooting procedures the Ford Service Manual may have available.
If I find the problem I'll post it here so it might help someone else in the future.
what a fiddly job) and gave the terminals a liberal spray of contact cleaner.I could see a little bit of green corrosion on the inside of the fuse box under where the two big terminals attach with the 10mm bolts.
It was hard to see but with a bright light and magnifying glass I could see it. I sprayed the fuse box all over and on the insides where I could get it.
Left it sit for a while to drain off the excess Inox then put it all back together.
It's all working as it should once again. Happy days.
I was told years a go by a computer repairer that you can spray Inox on computer Motherboards as it helps with corrosion but is nonconductive so it wont hurt circuit boards.
I have used it on a couple of my computers that have died in the past and they have all come back to life.
