The reason I suggested you have a local shop rebuild your original starter is that you will usually end up with a superior product over a Chinese built "new" starter that most of the parts stores are selling, including Napa.
I am using a new starter from napa, 3 starters in a row did it, I now have this one shimmed out about an 1/8" seems to be working fine
No teeth missing on my flex plate, no cracked welds no nothing, I think they are machining them differently
I wasnt aware these had to be shimmed but knock on wood I've never had issues there in the 9 years I've owned the truck
i had a 74 monte carlo 100 years ago, that you had to remember to park so you could roll it a little cause it had bad teeth on the flywheel, every few cranks it would land just right you had to be able to move it just a little
I am 110% a chevy guy when it comes to cars and I have danced that dance with those dam starters. The best advice I ever got when it comes to them things is a gym clip for mesh gap
