I have a new flywheel and a new distributor with a cast iron gear that fits a remote mount ignition control Module for my engine swap. I removed the old distributor a while ago to check it and I broke off a pin from the male end of the connector. When I went back to look at the connector however on the wiring harness, I saw 5 wires going into the male end of the connector (I believe the proper name is the distributor ignition pickup connector). Each wire had a pin connected to it. The connector is round and has 8 possible spots for a pin. When I look at the other end of the connector there are 8 slots for the pins to go and 7 wires on the female end of the connector. Does this mean that I'm good since there are 5 wires and 5 pins or do I need to find a new connector / fix the old one somehow? Some of the diagrams I saw online showed 5 wires going into the connection but they don't show the female end of the connection. This had been concerning me for some time. Any replies appreciated.
So the male end of the connector is at my house, I can't take a picture of it right now, but it has 5 pins and 5 wires going to it. I remember breaking pins off but only the ones that didn't directly have wires running to them on the male end of the connector. Will this mess something up? are they ground wires???
If there is a pin in the connector, it has a wire connected to it. If there is no wire, there is no male pin, or female receptor in the connector barrel.

The individual pins are held in place by a tiny clip that pushes against the side of the pins.
The trick is to pull/hold the clip away from the side of the pin while pulling the wire out the back of the plug without breaking the retaining clip.
I use a safety pin. (a big one about 2 inches per leg) If it's only one, you could replace the one pin & short length of wire & only have to make one splice.
You can use any similar size male pin & length of wire from any similar sized plug, but the color wire wouldn't match. No big deal.
If you go to a yard, I recommend getting a few similar sized/construction plugs & practicing.
