Mystery Distributor
302 engine
Made in Canada
The distributor HAD a male connector that went to the Control Modual, although I have looked online for a distributor that has a male connector from it, I can not find one that mentions that the connector is a male type.
This is the seconded engine that's been in this Van, and the current distributor has been sliced with the male connector from the original distributor, which has now gone bad.
I had ordered a distributor and it has come with a female connector and of course it doesn't connect with the connector to the control modual as it's a female connector as well and it's at least a foot away from the connection.
Anybody have a idea what the correct part number is? I don't want to have to spice into it like it was before.

Fits 1981/83 E-F100/250 with 302 except California or high-altitude carb
I have no idea if that will connect with your distributor the way you're describing, it sounds like somebody has maybe done some swapping around of parts?
Being a 1981 Canadian vehicle, it should have Duraspark II with a vacuum advance distributor on it. But, being that the engine was swapped, it could have really ANY kind of distributor in it, even one from a later model EFI vehicle.
I agree that it really sounds like someone has stuck their hands where they shouldn't have been.
The Control Module looks like the one you described ctubutis..it sits on the fenderwell and connects to a connector there that runs up to another connector that's about two feet to the distributor, it also has a female connector on the end of it (which the wires look to be original and not spiced) then the wire at the end is spiced into a male connector that goes into the distributor (which the replacement is a female connector).
It's something I haven't seen before...
It seems to me that if you're gonna be splicing in connectors, THAT one is the one that should be spliced - or maybe the pickup coil replaced with the proper one - because it's that connector that's causing the problem.
Before somebody else responds to your point about Rock Auto's policies on returning parts, be careful here... In my experience, yes, they're pretty good, BUT they will not take anything back for just any reason.
Specifically, you need to read everything when purchasing air conditioning components... it is industry-standard practice to require the replacement of certain other components whenever certain components such as the compressor are replaced, and you will have a hard time even at Rock if you don't follow those policies (for whatever reason) and the compressor you have is defective out of the box.
Another member here (switchfoot or something like that) had just such a problem....

Its seems that most companies will want you to follow their return policies as I have found out through trial an error in the past, and even tho I have already installed the distributor into the engine, I supposed they made an exception for me in this case as they mentioned in their first email to me that there were some distributors that had a male connection on them, although after the seconded email, they said that they didn't have that distributor in stock and had no idea who had one. They also asked if I had the old one and if I could get the number off of it...(which I couldn't because its already had been changed by the (PO) Prior Owner so I'm stuck with it as I need it running by this Monday to go to work in it....Thanks for trying....
