Ok, I bought a V10 Excursion cheap with the plan of a 6BT swap. The more I think about it I may just go with the DT360 I already have. The adapters I found for the swap require a 4r100 Diesel trans or a 5R110 Diesel trans. What is the best choice being I need a new trans no matter what. If I go with the 4R100 do I need a stand alone controller or can I configure the factory computer to control the new transmission? If I use a 5r110 can I use a 2009-2010 ish TCM? Does anyone besides CSD make the parts for a DT conversion?
Good deal. The 4R should hold, especially if you beef it up a bit and keep it cool. It would be easier being that you already have everything wired for it as they came behind the V10. Is the one you have toast?
No my transmission is fine. Only has 115k on it. The only bell housing adapters I’ve found is for the 4r100 diesel pattern and the 5r110 diesel pattern
There is only one 5R110 pattern, and it is the same pattern as the gas 4R100.
So if I order the adapter plate and flexplate for a 5R110 my gas 4R100 trans should work? Would I still need a stand alone controller or can I still use my gas ECM to control the transmission?
If you can get the engine RPM to the gas ECM it should control the trans to make it shift. Will it last? Who knows. The PCM (Ford doesn't call it an ECM) is calibrated to set the pressures for each shift to protect the clutches. Is that enough pressure for the shifts with the engine you're installing? The only way to find out is to build it and see if it destroys the transmission.
It could be worth a shot. Worse case I need a new trans which I was anticipating anyway. I will dig into service information and see what inputs the pcm needs and figure out how to make it happy.
