Why would someone cut this out?

This square was cut out of the transmission bellhousing on the 2010 navigator i am looking at. Anyone know why someone would do this?

Seen that before and it's a mark from an idiot. Thats what happens when you are too dumb to take the dust cover off.

Is it anything to worry about? Im thinking I'll just cover it up with duct tape or that shiny aluminium tape.

I can't imagine why they wouldn't just take off the cover.

Put something over it. You don't want debris to get in there.

it can have two ways. They needed to hold the crankshaft or turn the engine by flywheel
