Good for you. We don't own a TV. We get our news/weather from the phones or the laptops. I am also glad we are where we are so we don't have to put up with people.
This is our view from the back porch just outside the back door.
We record the 30 minute news program that comes on a 7PM. That allows us to skip over all the sensational stuff and get to the thing we're really interested in; the weather.
We live in the country, so we don't really have to worry about people up close. If they show up in front of our house, we fire a shot across their bow.
It is alarming that the USPS doesn't seem to be a priority. I would think it is a matter of national security. My wife worked as a city letter carrier and it's a job a lot of people don't really appreciate. A lot of America depends on the USPS.
One of the primary reasons that the USPS is in the financial mess that it is can be laid directly at the feet of Congress. Quite a few years ago Congress ordered the USPS to pre-fund health care benefits for retirees 30 years into the future.
YES. That's Right.
The USPS has to bank money now to pay for health care for retired employees that they haven't even hired yet and who won't be retiring for 30 years or more in the future. It is the ONLY Federal Government agency that is required to do that.
I've been retired from the USPS for 13 years now but at the time I retired that fund contained over 35 billion dollars. I can only imagine what it contains now. The one out for the USPS is the reason it hires so many "temporary" employees. No benefits.
I feel sorry for the folks at the USPS because they are kind of "tweeners"; neither government agency, but still treated like a government agency. The fact is that they are (compared to postal services in almost any other country) head and shoulders above all of them. Yet they get criticized up one side and down the other for things that are largely out of their control.
This is largely what is happening to Puerto Rico. The people there are all citizens, yet their territory (country?) does not get treated as one of the states. They are tweeners too.
I live in a rural area (rapidly being overrun by subdivisions). Our USPS employees are contract. Man they all look like ****bags. All in civilian clothes, sagging pants, untucked worn out T shirts, long hair, you name it. There's a different person almost every time I see mail being delivered, always in a plain van with no USPS markings.. I have no idea who my regular mailman is, or even if I have a regular one. I always have to check my mail to make sure it's all mine. Sometimes it takes a couple weeks to get something I'm expecting because it gets put in the wrong box. I was holding my breath after I paid off my truck hoping that I would get the title. I know the USPS can fix itself, don't know if they will though.
Sorry about the rant, I know that you regular USPS employees take more pride in your work. Don't know why we get the fast food rejects in my area.

The fund now has 57 billion in it, mostly funded by the federal reserve. So, the USPS owes that money back to the tax payers.
The agency is top heavy with under educated management who likely couldn't balance their own check books. Add congress to that schit show and it becomes a lose-lose for everyone.

That looks beautiful! What is your elevation there? I have lived in the country for a while but the wife never liked it 35 miles on way to work and we both worked different shifts. I finally gave up and moved to town. I tried to get her to let me buy a place on the local lake only 8 miles from town, she wouldn't go for that either.

We are at ~~2400'. The view in that picture is looking more-or-less south of us. The ocean is approximately 13 miles as the crow flies (not visible under the fog in that picture). This is one of our sunsets in close to the same direction that shows the ocean.

Just stunning! who would have thought you could beat the first picture. You look out my front door and all you see is houses. I hate it but the wife doesn't. I just have to live with it. you know "Happy wife, Happy life".
