Have about 12,000 miles since transmission rebuild, was told all the best parts were used, Ford Solenoid Pack, etc. Had shifting problems a week after completed. Eratic shifting, 2nd to OD at 20mph, no shift to OD in cold weather for over 15 miles, etc. Had the truck back in the shop 5 different times. Was told bad ecm, replaced twice. Back to trans shop. Was then told the Solenoid Pack was at fault, bad temp sensor, but was never replaced. The shop manager did not do his job. Anyways, to the problem now.
Driving down the road, truck not quite to operating temp, early February, od bypassed, steady 40 mph in 3rd, can feel and hear the transmission shifting, between 3rd low and high. Got to destination and shut off truck.
went to restart, smoke and burnt smell from ecm, did not start, truck towed.
I am thinking to replace the Solenoid Pack, ECM, should be ok? But with burnt ECM, no way to check codes, see any other possible problems, I am leery to spend the $.
I am a mechanic by trade, just did not have the place or tools to do the transmission myself.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
If you are sure the PCM is bad, there is not much you can do until you replace it. Depending on where you got the current one it may be under warranty. If it was failing when you were having issues hopefully replacing it will solve your problem. Anything other than replacing it now is guessing. $$$. Sandy
Thanks Sandy for the response.
I am concerned that if the transmission Solenoid Pack caused the PCM to go out, that it will do the same with a new one.
Warranty has expired on current PCM.
I am pretty sure that the Solenoid Pack is no good, as it has been a couple years since the original repair, and Symptoms have been there throughout.
Any assistance is Greatly appreciated.
