That is highway robbery for a map that will never update again! Guess I will just continue to use my FREE & always up to date phone navigation.
Ain't it great, Ford decides that after 7 years the truck is obsolete. GM did that to me with the ripoff Onstar system some years ago. These thousand dollar electronics have a short shelf life.

That is pretty much the same price it has been for the last 8 years. How do I know? I bought an update for my 2011 F350. If one travels a lot or has a hotshot service, it might be worth the cost to update.
Also, if you bought the SD card from Ford, it would have a list price similar to the DVD price of $149.00.

You do understand that the 2019 update is the last and you will live with that as long as you own the truck?

Not sure if the Ford Parts website states it or not, but the SOP is Ford will maintain inventory for vehicles for 10 years. After 10 years, any part depleted will not be replaced or restocked. Some vehicles can get around this when their vehicle was produced for that extends the 10 year limit. That is where the aftermarket parts, new or NOS, will come into play.
So, if you can't update the maps, then you can update the radio to a newer one with NAV.
Its these updates that makes me wish I had a sync 3 system with android auto. Having that is the best of both worlds. Hands free in dash map, but always up to date via google maps on your phone. If a sync 3 retrofit wasnt so dang expensive, I'd probably go that route. but 1500 bucks is a little steep for me.
We use ApplePlay for map navigation often when there's good cell coverage. However we occasionally end up in remote areas w/o cell coverage and then the onboard Nav with updated map is handy to have.
I have spent countless hours trying to find something I can update my 2011 with, seems the only option is to buy it from ford, I have heard it's locked to the vin but I think there could be a way around that being the DVD is not writable. My search continues...

Thanks, although I'm looking for something thats not $150, every other car I have Ive been able to update maps for 20 or less, in fact only paid for one of them and that was 20. Ford is crazy charging what they want for maps that are out of date before they even burned the first DVD

Nissan wants a similar amount for a map update. Screw that. I'll just use Google Maps on my phone and download maps ahead of time in case there is limited signal (that also reduces my data usage).

Not only that, but the GPS is now an obsolete dinosaur. Planned obsolesce. I had a Tahoe with OnStar that had the analog system, it turned to junk in a few years as the cellphone systems changed. No upgrades for that thing as well. We pay considerable money for these vehicles and they are to be junked in short order.
