08+ Mirrors

Hey guys. Got a couple of questions regarding the newer style mirrors. But first, a little bit of background info. My truck originally came with the paddle/non-tow mirrors. They were also totally manual mirrors. So, I bought some of the rounded 99-07 tow mirrors (also totally manual) from ebay a few years ago. While they are an upgrade from the paddle mirrors, ever since day 1, the glass vibrates pretty bad. More recently, they're starting to fade. So, I'm looking to step up again. But this time to the 08+ style mirrors. Power mirrors would be nice, but I don't know if it'd even be possible, and I don't mind manual mirrors one bit.

So,
Has anybody converted totally manual mirrors to power mirrors? If not, the 08+ mirrors will still bolt up fine without plugging anything in correct?

Secondly, am I better off going with Ford mirrors, or are there any good aftermarket companies out there?

The 08+ will bolt up just fine and you don't have to plug them in. As for power, anything is possible if you have the time, money and are willing to do the work, but it won't be extremely easy.

I've put aftermarket mirrors from Amazon on a couple of different trucks. I got the ones with smoked lenses and LED lights in the ends and the glass has been fine. No shaking or other issues.

On my EX, I went with the Trail Ridge Mirrors bought from 1AAuto. Very happy with them. Cost was around $250 for the set shipped. Mine are heated (defrost), power adjustable for direction, and have running & turn lights. These don't power adjust in-out or power fold. Thos options are also available. I would recommend this brand and seller for a great product and customer service. OEM replacements are very expensive brand new. IIRC, they were over $1K for the pair of mirrors. I lucked out in the past and found a set of mirrors from a '14 Super Duty that had all the options in them for $120 each at a junk yard. Too bad, they went with my previous Excursion.

You can upgrade to a power-all setup. Just need to get through all the new electrical work, switches etc. to achieve that. I believe there is a thread on the Excursion sub-forum detailing how this can be done.

I bought some cheap ones off eBay for around $120 or so. They work great and hit great. A lot of people don't trust the knock offs and go with 1A Auto version, which is a better quality knock off. Either way, they bolt up fine and work so much better than the tow mirrors from our truck era.

As for the post @unleashd was talking about, I think this is it. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post15842311

It is in the 7.3L PSD Tech Folder as well for future reference.

@Sous Thanks for posting up that link for adding the wiring for the mirror lights. @Nicmike is a great resource and writes some awesome documentation. But, I was looking for this link that details a complete setup when you do not have any of the power functionality - heat, adjustment, in/out, and folding features.

@unleashd , that is why I tagged you! I had already included that link in the Tech Folder, but did not link it above for some reason.

Thank you sir for watching my back!

@Jo7.3 , as you can see the willingness to help and the resources here on the FTE are endless. You will see in the image below that there are several threads and posts in the Tech Folder that will help you in your project.

I did skim through some of the links regarding mirrors. But most of what I read seemed to have to do with wiring up the new mirrors into older trucks that had factory power mirrors. It's a lot of great info, but since my rig doesn't have power mirrors, it wasn't quite the info I was looking for. At this point, I don't think I'm gonna worry about wiring anything up. As long as they don't shake/vibrate like my current ebay tow mirrors do, I'll be happy.

Yes sir, the 1A Auto mirrors with part number TRMRP00044 is what I believe the other fellas purchased. I went the cheaper eBay route.

I am on my phone right now so searching is difficult, but I have some posts on here about my mirrors. Either way, they are a lot better than the early model tow mirrors.

These are the ones I bought and think Sous did as well as others. Been very happy with them and they were installed early 2018

Those are what I bought too. I had a problem with the passenger side mirror not adjusting up/down. I contacted them about the problem, and they wanted to refund half my money and then “I” would find a new replacement mirror. They wanted to do this because they do not sell individuals. I made it crystal clear that I was not searching eBay to try and find a mirror that matched, and this was their problem and not going to be mine. I also told them/threatened to give them a bad review and contact eBay if we didn’t take care of this immediately. two days later I received a shipping notice and they sent me two brand new mirrors and I did not have to send the original ones back. So basically I have a set of spares...
The mirrors them selves from the towing standpoint are top notch, the increased size of the blind spot mirror on them makes them worth every penny! I did have to trim some of the soft foam off the mounting surface to get a tight fit but definitely not a deal breaker. Mirrors fit tight, no vibrations or imperfections.

If you have an extra set and the power doesn't work on one of them you may be able to work out a deal with the OP who doesn't plan to wire power
