New Flash Works!
Well guys, I have an 04 that has had all the related electronic problems that have been posted on this forum. The problems started at 500 miles and have plagued me ever since. The problems I have encountered are the stalling at idle, dead throttle pedal, engine dying at hiway speeds, severe tach flucuation. I have had all the software updates the last one being released on 10/6/03 and none of them have helped my situation. The truck had a flight recorded installed this last week and hopefully the dealer got some usable information. The truck is in the shop now and the diesel tech is in contact with the Ford engineers trying to get a handle on this nagging problem.

Has anybody noticed that all of the "hey I just got reflashed and it's great" comments are coming from new users? I'm waiting to hear from a “Tim Lamkin” or a “King Ranch” - type user to get in this issue. No offense intended to the new guys... there may be spies among us. Yeah, I’m paranoid…

Drove the Ex around today- city and highway just to check it out. I never had any major gripes with mine, but got the new reflash anyway. My observations.
1. Gas Pedal seems to be a little more responsive without the extra little play in it. I was thrown off last night because it felt like I needed to push down harder. When I looked at it this AM, it was because the dealer tech left the cable that runs from the computer to the PCM in my truck and the connecting end of the cable was under my gas pedal.
2. Less turbo whistle. Mine always whistled annoyingly at idle and drove me crazy. Do not notice as much now.
3. Little to no smoke on startup. As pointed out in the posts above, the Brrrrapppt sound is gone. Used to romp about 3-5 times then smooth out. Did not do this at all today.
4. Overall feel is just more crisp. Not exactly sure how to explain it. Feels like the engine and transmission are more "in synch"- smooth shifts, slightly better response/idle.
5. It is slightly louder, but nothing that jumps out at me.
Tried to drive it some, then get out and evaluate it, then go again. So, hopefully my opinions are not skewed.
In my opinion, it does not hurt to get the reflash, but if your truck is fine, probably no reason to get it. Have not driven enough to test the fuel mileage, but have no reason to believe right now it will be any better or worse. I will keep better track of it though.
The other good test will be when I pull my Travel Trailer, but that will have to wait until next year as it is stored for the winter.

Hi Fellas,
Spoke with a Ford customer service rep on Friday. My engine build date is April 15 or 17th, can't remeber form the Indy plant. The CSR told me that there are no recalls due on my truck. No flashes or anything. I have had dead pedal only once for a very brief period(3 seconds or less) and have never really had the romps or rough idle. It is a six speed, and isn't terrible on pulling out. No0t great, but as was stated before, this is going to have a Moped feel at idle
Has anyone ever been told this before??? Seems funny, since all the dealer members seem to be saying ALL trucks had to be flashed before sale.
I have yet to be in the shop. Don't want to be. My mileage has dropped a little, but winter is coming, and maybe the longer warm up times are taking their toll on mileage(No I don't let it sit running until warm) Did do an oil change, which was when the mileage dropped. Can't imagine that would do that, but who knows with this new engine.
Going to speak to a regional rep on Wednesday, about steering wander. I have a feeling it is the steering box. Starting to feel like my 93 after about 60,000 miles. Bet the box is bad. Only 5300 miles now. will ask a few more questins about the flash then.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
If the mileage has improved, I will just ride it out until the next flash. It's still the best truck I have owned.
Might be of use for the rest of us. I still don't get a correlation between the SSM's you gave us and the 3U7AFPC that my shop foreman gave me.
