Hi I have a 03 build date Feb 03 bought in june I have been reading all of these post My truck runs like crap I here all of you say that yours smokes too is it blue smoke? I go to disbute board the 11th Got a phone call from ford yesterday telling me
about this new flash but I not sure if WILL fix it what do you all think?
If it runs like crap, then it will not hurt to get it. It will validate that was the problem (it will run better) or there is something more seriously wrong with your motor (no change). I would recommend you get it. My .02.
I love my truck but am afraid it will get me killed at an intersection by a dump truck one day. I have a F250 6 speed crew long bed 3.73 rears. I have to make a left turn at a busy intersection (stop sign only). Most of the time (19 out of 20) truck does O.K. Moped until about 1500 rpm then rocket. Problem is I never know when the 1/20 is about to hit. 1 mph hoping all trafic has good brakes.
Last trip to the dealer I demanded 8 new injectors hoping that would fix problem as well as 16 mpg. A Ford engineer said nothing wrong with my truck. I traded in a perfectly good 94 5-speed that got 17mpg in Feb. 12,000 miles and no other problems with it. Any advice would be appreciated especially from 6 speed owners. How do you start buy back fight with Ford
The Moped part is going to always be there…it is a four valve motor. This is a high RPM motor and therefore will NOT have the usually associated off the line (at idle) grunt power. This is inherent to the design of 6.0, granted it should not be dead just a bit lazy until it starts to spin up. ( I repeat not dead)
That notwithstanding, if it is truly leaving you with 1/20 times then get it flashed.
You started your statement with “I love my truck” and ended with how to get Ford to buy it back………suggestion, give Ford a chance, it is one great system, and quiet capable of what you want……………IMO
"Black is beautiful" . in other words, if it is black smoke with a diesel, that's good, if it is blue smoke, you have a problem from what I have heard.
So does everyone that has had the problems with the 6.0
blown blue smoke? Did the Flash fix this? I love my truck
but Iam afraid to let them flash again when just a week from the dispute board hearing! I have had All of the symtoms everyone has talked about The rough Idle the jerking the blue smoke the dead pedal the clunk in the shift the truck really jerks when you reverse so I am just wandering should I or shouldnt I? I was told in Sept by mechanics they cannot fix it. last time they worked on it the exshaust stinks now like something burning what do you all think?
Hi Fellas,
Spoke with a Ford customer service rep on Friday. My engine build date is April 15 or 17th, can't remeber form the Indy plant. The CSR told me that there are no recalls due on my truck. No flashes or anything. I have had dead pedal only once for a very brief period(3 seconds or less) and have never really had the romps or rough idle. It is a six speed, and isn't terrible on pulling out. No0t great, but as was stated before, this is going to have a Moped feel at idle
Has anyone ever been told this before??? Seems funny, since all the dealer members seem to be saying ALL trucks had to be flashed before sale.
I have yet to be in the shop. Don't want to be. My mileage has dropped a little, but winter is coming, and maybe the longer warm up times are taking their toll on mileage(No I don't let it sit running until warm) Did do an oil change, which was when the mileage dropped. Can't imagine that would do that, but who knows with this new engine.
Going to speak to a regional rep on Wednesday, about steering wander. I have a feeling it is the steering box. Starting to feel like my 93 after about 60,000 miles. Bet the box is bad. Only 5300 miles now. will ask a few more questins about the flash then.

Thanks for the reply Tim. I am a diehard Ford fan. If I get rid of this truck will buy an 04 after thourough test drive. I understand and accept moped starts but am afraid of truly dead pedal I get about 1 out of 20 times. Truck has been reflashed 3 times. First 2 did absolutely nothing. Third reflash cured rough idle which wasn't that big of a deal. The dealer (actually a Ford factory tech) told me nothing wrong with truck last week. An employee of mine nearly ran over a 6.0 last week with aparently same problem. Where do I go from here?
Hardwood, is your truck giving you less performance than it had when you first bought it? I give this advice frequently on this forum... Go into the sales area and ask to test drive a new 6.0 with the same body and drive configuration as your truck. If it performs a lot better than yours, drive it back to the service area and demand the service manager take a little ride with you in both of the trucks. It's difficult for anybody to argue with hard data.
Longhauller2, luckily I can't give you any smoke information on my truck. It doesn't smoke at all. I suggest you allow the new flash to be applied to your truck. It will show good faith when you go to the bargaining table. What do you have to lose? I do wish you the best of luck. There are a lot of us out here that have had great experiences with our trucks. I hope you can join our group soon!
Debug, My truck runs the same as it did in February which is great 99+% of the time. I have yet to see or talk to another person with a 6 speed for comparison. 16 mpg compared to 17 in 1994 4:10 rears bothers me a little since this engine advertised 8-10% better fuel economy but what really scares me is the dead pedal I get about once every week or so. Charlotte, NC. is a busy place where you can't wait forever at stop signs. Any advice on whats wrong is appreciated.
Hardwood,
Debug is right on, doing a side by side at the dealership, is the way to go….for now. If one dealership is not responsive to your request then go to another. They should all service each customer the same…but it does not happen that way.
The other part to that equation is experience at the technician level. Every dealership has that one young/old…kid/person that is in to this stuff at a level that surpasses anyone else in the area; find that technician he/she is worth their weight in gold. That is not to say the others are not qualified, its just that one is a cut above…. you can usually find that person by the new 250SD in the back parking lot that is jacked up and have every aftermarket option made, they live for their trucks. (as if we don' t )
Thats fine but if relashing increases gas milage then it might be worth itl...HuH?...I heard that one of the new reflashes changes the fuel injection to injector from 100% to one injector to 50% to two injectors...any comments on this change?
Have not heard about this 50% thing going on, I am very curious, what this forum will come up with on that issue.
Just because flashing “might” give you more MPG it is not necessarily a good idea to flash……..if there is no need. The difficulty here is describing a particular problem in enough detail as to give all readers an acceptable picture of what is going on with the vehicle. Case in-point smoke at start up, it can be heaver looking in a humid climate. At 18% humidity you can barely see the same smoke as someone in Florida, it just despites quicker in dry climates. So one person that has smoke at start up may not be seen by others, as bad. Again, it is very difficult to capture the (in writing) the nature of the problem…………………sometimes.
That is why this forum is so great, it gives all of us different views and way of looking at issues.
