I am a new member, looking for some advice on my 1988 F-250HD XLT Lariat. It has the 460 (7.5L) and 3 speed automatic transmission. I need to replace my power steering filter and have already found a replacement and was planning on using Valvoline VV324 ATF as the replacement fluid. My question is how much fluid can I expect to replace? I'd like to have everything ready to go when I begin the filter replacement rather than having to head back out to the store.
Worst case? Imagine you spill more than half the capacity by accident or say a leak develops. Have enough on hand to cover that OH S#!T moment.
I actually am planning on replacing all the fluid, as I have been working on the truck since I bought it a few months back. The previous owner kept the interior nice but let a lot of the mechanical components go without servicing. When I bought it, there was only one quart of oil in it, the radiator was full of rust, and the brakes gave out once I got it home. Needless to say, it started as a rolling "OH S#!T" moment. I just haven't been able to find anything that says what the volume of the pan that the filter draws from is. Any best guesses? 2 quarts? 2 gallons?
power steering has no filter and no pan, just did mine 1 quart 1 pint, of type F ATF fluid, or are you speaking of draining transmission pan and filter?
