I have a 78 f150 and my round headlight buckets got rust in them. was looking to get some new ones. but the only round ones they list are for 73-77. and square for 78 and 79. are the round bckets on the earlyer trucks the same as mine then or they not reproduced.

Nope, they have different mounting point and locate the headlight in a different location.

My '79 has rectangle headlights, there's a good chance that someone just swapped in round ones on your truck, and the early application will fit

They might be salvageable with a bucket of Evapo Rust. Stuff does wonders.

I soaked them for about 2 days each. I got new adjusting screws for a couple of bucks.

I didn't take any pictures after repainting, but they turned out great.

I got a 3 gallon bucket and it has paid for itself several times over.

Just a thought.

Standard headlight for '78 was still round, even with the new grille and core support. If you opted for a Ranger XLT I think it was, you got the rectangular headlights. Then in '79 all trucks had them.
So I can see the '78 buckets being slightly different like was said. Not sure if that means that a new pair of '73 to '77 buckets couldn't be made to fit, but it might take more tweaking than it's worth.

I'm a big fan of Evap-o-Rust too. Have a 5gal bucket of it in the garage that I should start on soon now that I've used up the 1gal jugs.

Good luck with yours gogeta. Maybe the rust isn't so bad? Either way, maybe someone has a side-by-side view of the two styles of bucket as well.

I didn't replace the little spring and I don't know how difficult they are to find, so don't lose them.

Also, I got some replacement adjusting screws from a local parts house, and the heads on the screws were too small and slipped through the notches. So if you go that route, take one with you to check.

I ended up getting them from Rock Auto and a much better price and they fit much better.

You can get new springs on lmc truck for around $2. and I also got new screws. as it seemes all the ones I have seen tend to be very corroded. I don't usually buy lmc stuff unless its hardware or you can't get it anywhere else.
