And though this does not help with your current issue, don't throw away your old starter relay/solenoid. If it worked for a long time, it might be handy if your new one fails as many do.
Besides, if the starter spins the engine the relay is working. No need to change it unless you find that the Brown "I" wire is being shorted out while cranking. This can be quickly tested by disconnecting the wire from the relay.
In fact, it never hurts to try this anyway. Just disconnect the small Brown wire from the I terminal of the starter relay/solenoid and see if anything changes at the ignition. It should not in your case, because you were already seeing correct voltage readings at the coil + wire, but hey, at this point we're grasping at straws!
One of my first thoughts was to make sure the distributor was spinning, but with you manually opening and closing the points you should have been seeing sparkage.
Anyway, good luck. It's usually something simple when all else is coming up good.
There are many forums for political discussions. This is not one of them.
Correct. This thread has been cleaned. Keep political discussion and references out of the tech forums guys, thank you.
I would hope the moderators would keep a closer check on this. Thanks
Like all successful forums, we rely on our partnership with the users to report posts or behavior when it's needed. We have an excellent moderation staff here at FTE but we cannot be aware of all posts in all threads in every single forum. It's not even logical to suggest we should be aware of all things that happen in every thread, and quite frankly, it can't be done. Which is why we depend on you guys to alert us when necessary.
