im not sure if i am asking a question or just venting some frustration: here is my story
my truck-1953 f350 215 6cyl. 12v
what ive done- just got this truck into the garage it been sitting for 5 years not running, so just went ahead and put new wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser and coil on it, i figured if i start with new parts it wouldn't be as much of a headache when i went to start it up....... i was wrong.... no spark..... points are grounding out and breaking ground properly, got 12v to the 12v coil .....no spark seems like all the parts of the puzzle are there just no spark.... i have had condensers new out of the package be bad so maybe thats it, i just don't know. i closed the points on a 20 dollar bill and pulled it through.. still nothin. checked my grounds again still nothing, im lost, I think i might just keep throwing money at it maybe it will start
same thing with my old tractor last year everything was correct and no spark the bill through the points worked for that one
I would recommend throwing money at me instead of the truck. It will do you just as much good as trying to diagnose with the shotgun approach.
1. Start at the coil and see if you have full voltage to the input side of the coil..
2. If so remove the distributor cap and rotor and with the switch on use a insulated screwdriver and bridge between the point opening and see if you have fire.
3.If so then remove the coil to distributor wire and open and close the points and holding the end of the coil wire near a unpainted and clean area it should spark.
Hopefully one of those things will be bad and give you a better idea what the issue is. If it still is not firing post again and will go further. I bet one of the above will be bad. It is so easy to ground the point, or wire or have some other issue inside the distributor.
Good luck
Larry
Check the coil to distributor wire to make sure it is not chaffed and grounding out.
Take to coil off and shake it - if it sloshes at all it's bad. I'd go with a solid packed "Flame Thrower." About 40-50% of all the new coils and condensers you buy will be bad right off the shelf! But check the wire first!
that was the problem took about 5 min to find and fix, whenever i get frustrated I walk away which is probably a good thing, hope you don't mind me comming on here to vent a little when that happens, i think it helps me out a lot to have somewhere good people that truly want to help are there to support me and others like me. now i gots me sum spark....... just doesn't start. keeps backfiren out the carb no flames though so it must just be the timming is retarded a little too much which wouldn't surprise me the way the carb was set up and the old coil that the po had on it, that he found in a junk yard that looked like a coil pack off of a later model car with creative wiring to get it to work so its just a matter of getting it right and hopfully it starts and runs good than i can finish tarring the rest of the truck apart. just need to here it running so i know if i need to tare apart the engine to or if it can wait and just get some new gaskets
Great! I'm glad that was the problem and it was easy to fix.
Sounds like your timing is off, but also make sure you don't have an intake valve stuck open if the engine hasn't been run for awhile. A compression check will tell you if the valves are all closing (unless one is burned off)

thanks for the advice i actually am waiting until Thursday when i can borrow a compression tester from a friend (not sure what happened to my old when, ive moved over a thousand miles since the last time i used it)
heard it run for the first time today first time its run in at least 5 years, was a great sound gonna hafta run it some more but for the 30 seconds it was running it sounded great need some fuel for it and there is the other thing......
