replace shock or strut?

I have a 1978 Ford F100 2WD

Whenever I back out of my driveway when the right front side hits the swale at the end it slams like there is no suspension there. lol...Would that be the Strut causing that issue or likely the shock? I am thinking shock, but not certain.

You do not have per say "struts" like "McPherson Struts" like what cars have. You have a coil spring and a shock absorber. And rubber bushings that are around the radius arm end studs. I'd check for a broken coil spring (should be obvious) and or a bad shock absorber.

Yeah ah when I looked under the truck again this afternoon the right coil is actually somewhat bent lol...I will likely just replace all 4 pieces

Front coil springs bowed or bent? Some times that have a little bow angle to them? Is the bottom spring cup secure and are the coil spring retaining brackets there? Are your bump stops there? Are the shock mount rubber bushings there and secure?

I did not look too long, but it looks like the bottom of the spring is just resting on the metal..I was going to ask if there should be a rubber piece it should be setting in...I wouldn't be surprised if the springs are the stock one son this truck.

No rubber there, there just metal to metal contact.
