I was looking at an 96 F-150 4x4 5.0 standard cab yesterday and I noticed that there was a shock in front of and behind the front coil spring. When I looked at my 94 F150 4x4 5.0 standard mine had just one shock behind the coil spring. He said he was the original owner and it was stock with no lift. I checked rough country lift kits today and they said on the site that some of the trucks came with quad shocks in the front. I have seen other people have the same thing but haven't paid much attention. Does anyone know why some came with them and some didn't? I would like to upgrade to it when I lift my truck but I was just wondering. Thanks
It was part of the trailer package. It adds more stability to the vehicle while towing. My '89 4x4 has it, my '91 doesn't, and I think the Bronco has it too. It was a fairly common option.
You can get the parts to do it from the boneyard. There are two brackets that fit under the coil springs. You have to take the coil out, unfortunately. I believe the coil bucket is already drilled, but I'd check that out before starting the surgery.
I have been searching the boneyards and none of them have what I am looking for listed. What should I ask for when I am talking to them? I have tried shock tower, mount, spring mount, and they don't have any idea what I am talking about. Is there a correct name for that whole assembly that bolts to the frame? Thanks again.

Those names are appropriate, can try "spring bucket"....or "upper spring mount"...etc
That's what stinks about those places. If it doesn't say it in the computer they can't think past it.
This portion of the suspension is a little unique in that the upper portion is stationary. In the newer independent suspensions that upper portion moves - it's part of the "double wishbone" where both arms move. With our suspension only the lower arm moves and the upper arm is stationary.
Try Bronco Graveyard. I got mine from them. Check price at dealership too. I think the stealership was cheaper!!!! but I needed it asap and they needed to order it. I believe all new spring towers sold now have the two mounts even if the front one is not used.
That place looks great and I just found what I was looking for thanks alot, the one and hopefully last question I have about this surgery is where does the front shock mount to? I know the rear shock mounts to the raius arm but there is nothing in front of the axle for the front shock to mount to, so where does it mount to? Thanks alot guys your the best.
