I was wondering what is the difference in having a single shock compared to a dual shock. Is there a difference in the comfort of the ride or is the second shock purly looks? does having another shock hurt or help the ride of the truck? Also is a coil spring in the front always going to ride smoother than a leaf spring set up? and is it worth going through the trubble of changing out a leaf spring to a coil? thanks
I have ridden in dual shock vehicles and to me, they seem stiffer. Didnt like it.
As for the coils versus leafs...that all depends on the coil and leaf...their springs rates, etc.
Swapping over to coils requires MUCH more than just removing the leaf spring perches and welding on new coil spring perches. You NEED a 3,4, or 5 link setup. And those are hard to perfect from scratch.
My neighbor had a built-to-the-nuts chebby a few years back with 4 shocks on each corner; 1 rancho 9000, and the rest were worn out beaters painted to match. Unless you're doing 6 foot banzai's, they're just stiffer and for looks. You only really need 1 good one on each corner.
Yup, in general most guys who run duals don't need them. You've gotta beat your truck and have allot of weight to justify them. Even then, you have to match your shocks appropriately so the rate doesn't make it a crappy ride...if you do that though they can be setup just fine.
