I just found stickers on my engine, i didnt know were there..... just got home and one a whim i used this stuff from sams club that we clean the oven with, because i thought, hey, my engine is hot, and that cleaner is supposed to be used at 200 degrees, or there abouts.... wow. So great
Half of my point in sharing. I sprayed it on hot. Then i got my yard sprayer. With the hand pump and wand, filled it with hot tap water, and rinsed the cleaner off. 30% of the gunk gone, in 10 minutes, without busting my knuckles even once
I used to use that Gunk "foamy engine brite" product on previous vehicles with decent luck but I have been leery about doing that with this engine and have just learned to live with it even though I am a clean freak. (Outside of the truck gets washed all the time.) Is it not that big of a deal if water gets down the back through the hole into the bellhousing?
I am gonna leave that answer to better minds than mine. @Sous Perhaps would know. My personal thinking is that people mud and offroad these, soooo water really shouldnt be a huge concern. Ill sit back and see if im crazy or not... lol
It IS a big deal for oil and oil water to get into the bell housing IF you have a ZF6 truck. This is a big deal because the clutch is almost certainly guaranteed to be contaminated.
I had a drainage pipe installed from the valley hole down to the bottom of the bell housing when I had my clutch replaced.
I use Simple Green and a low pressure sprayer (shower setting) on my garden hose. I make sure the engine is cold from sitting overnight. I make sure the front of the truck is slightly higher so the water can run out of the valley and off of flat surfaces. I also cover the alternator and power steering reservoir cap with plastic.
After letting the simple green soak for 10-15 minutes I rinse it off and immediately start the truck. I let it idle for 5-10 minutes then take it on a 10 mile drive.
This allows for any excess water to burn off. I did this several times to get to where it is now and it looks new.
Sometimes I use a bit of plastic polish on the hoses and large plastic surfaces., but it every time.
