Hey guys.
what would you guys use to clean the oil and crudd off your engine? i would like to be able to eat off of my enging. but right now it has oil and dirt all over it. and i dont like that. any good tricks that would get that stuff off?
Thanks
Mitch
Spray "Gunk" works good for the greasy stuff. Do it w/ the motor alittle warm, let it soak in.When you've got alot of built up crud nothing beats the old elbow grease.Just gotta get in there & do some scraping & brushing. It will take a few rounds to get it really clean.
If you have a Tymar, Kwik, or 6637 filter, put it in a heavy-duty plastic bag & tie it off. Other than that, you might want to stay away from the fuse/relay box in front of the master cylinder. Wear a full-face safety shield because you're going to kick back a lot of junk at the car wash.
Virtually everything, except the intake, is a sealed system under the hood. However, that doesn't mean that a loose connection won't leak. Consider using a screwdriver or other appropriate tool to tighten clamps & fittings before washing. Also, remove the flip-top engine cover to gain access to the filter/pump area; this is alsways a gungy mess.
I just give it a good soaking with simple green and a garden hose. As those weatherpack connectors age, they don't always stay waterproof. I don't like a high pressure cleaning for that reason.
There is a product called "Awesome" and it can be purchased at "Dollar Tree" stores for ONE Dollar. If you don't have a dollar tree store it can be purchased on ebay. It works great and it's cheap. Keep it off painted/plastic surfaces, rinse the fenders after you spray the engine. I would warm up the engine and then degrease it. Cleaned off all the blow by under the hood and makes aluminum shine like new, great for brake dust on wheels!! Good Luck!!

I agree with that except one thing. That simple green left a white haze all over everything. It cut the grease well. But after it dried, everthing looked like the threw baby poweder at it. Even after repeated rinses. I myself disliked that alot. I would try a different cleaner. But like Cookie said, just use a water hose. High pressure washing is risky on our trucks.
A pressure washer can damage stuff, for sure. One has to be careful when using it underhood. Foamy oven cleaner works quite well especially when mixed with some manual scrubbing!
Yes i finnaly got to wasing it when i took the pics and posted them. i went under there with a pressure washer and stayed away from the right hand side electrical stuff. it cleaned up half way descent now its time for the scrubbin. ill prob get some oven cleaner, awsome or some simple green and go out there 2 times a day and just blast the **** out of it for like a week. that should get everything loose and should wipe right off with some scrubbin.
