Wicked wheel 2 on van

I have a 99 e350 7.3. Ive been slowly tinkering with it. Recently did a 4 inch full exhaust. The thing sounds nasty and it did uncork it a bit. Id like to get a little more turbo noise with the ww2 drop in turbo wheel. Faster spooling and more boost will just be a bonus. So im noticing some differences between the van and the pickups.

I know The vans have no intercooler. Do they have a wastegate? Im assuming it must have one but i dont see it on top of the turbo as obviously as i see them on pickups.

Tons of videos show guys taking the cold side of the the turbo housing off and then cracking the wheel loose with an impact gun. This avoids having to remove the entire turbo, but is it safe? The website says not to do that but an overwhelming amount of people seem to disregard the warning.

Can i delete that “exhuast flap” while im in there? Is it worth it?

Thanks guys. Not a ton of info on vans out there.

No wastegate in a van 1.15 turbine housing.

Personally i wouldnt use impact gun anywhere on turbo, but some say it's ok to loosen with impact BUT DONT tighten with it!
Some think you should fully balance your movin parts on turbo, but some say it's ok to add wheel that is component balanced.

Yes you can delete the ebpv flapper, but to get the full benefit you should do the non-ebpv pedestal.
Theres probably no performance gain in doing so,but the factory ebpv pedestal is proven to leak from the actuator rod.

By the way,i have 2000 e350 with custom stock turbo, been hitting 44psi boost with it..
Check my thread about it.

If you want to have a broken turbine shaft in the future then use an impact. Vans dont have a waste gate.
If you want to hear more turbo whistle upgrade your intake, I don't how that would be posible in a van. A tuner with decent tunes would wake your van right up.

Custom "6637" intake is possible in a van,if you move battery elsewhere from under the hood.
Includes also some cutting and windshield washer reservoir fits under the fuse panel in engine bay.
Ive done all this, next im gettind rid of the ac compressor.(its ok in Finland)
I think intercooler would fit with some mods in front of the radiator,if theres no ac core..
Then some small hybrids and...

In the exhaust? My stock exhaust didnt appear to have a cat. And the current 4 inch system is all straight pipe except 1 tiny muffler

If you have a straight pipe and put a van turbo on your truck I promise you, you will like the "ZZZIIIINNNGGGGGGGGG" that comes out of the exhaust when you let off while making boost!!!

Like they said, the compressor side of the van turbo is the same as the trucks. Vans have no WG and no intercooler and a larger 1.15 exhaust housing with a slightly larger turbine wheel. (Trucks use .84). The outlet adapter for the downpipe is also smaller on the van turbo. As long as you don’t have an ‘early 99’, everything else is the same as trucks. E99 vans got some weird stuff...

I describe how to eliminate the EBPV here for about $1. I don’t recommend buying a deleted pedestal.

I agree with the others’. Changing the intake will likely change the sound the most for you.
