My 83 has a double beveled mirror on one side and a really smashed round curvy one on the other. I'd like to replace it and someone on the forums quite some time ago was nice enough to send me a mirror and although it's beveled on the back it only has one and the mirror is actually very different.
What vehicle did this mirror come from? The doors are 80-81.
I opened it up by prying the mirror out. Then I ground down the formed threads in the lock bar that puts pressure on the ball joint. Then I added some lock washers and nuts to new hardware and now my mirror is great.... Other than I broke the mirror. Try to pry from the top, work your tool between the rubber and the metal, don't try to remove the mirror from the metal. There's sorta lock tabs in the bottom of my mirror and prying from the top should prevent breaking.
Burco redo products 2224 turned out to be a replacement part. I haven't put it in yet because I bought heated mirror pads you can stick to the back of the mirror. Once I can find another mirror I will hook it all up!

^ Not a Ford mirror, it's an "el cheapo" aftermarket auto parts store replacement for the TYPE 9 "Low Mount Swing-Lock" mirror. See pic:
You should be able to get the mirror glass replaced locally. My Fisher Auto store used to do it. Maybe try a Napa. Possibly try your local glass place. Possibly try your local Do It Best Hardware store. Our local store cuts glass pretty cheap, mirror glass is not any different.
