Mirror is Malfuctioned...
The pitch and yaw motors both buzz normally. The mirror will move manually. No binding at all.
F250 2002 SC 4X4 Lariat with extendable towing mirrors comprised of a 5x7 flat mirror and a 5x2 spherical mirror on the bottom. No heater or lights in the mirror assembly.
The mirror was whacked 2 years ago yielding a smashed flat mirror and a demonstration of the wrap-around feature of the mounts! I replaced it myself, but the process was tedious and I smashed the little spherical mirror in the process (40 bucks).
The replacement mirror worked fiine until now and I am familliar with the workings inside the assembly that actuate the mirror. I was hoping for a trick to expedite the crappy job I have looming. I found popping the glass and plastic mirror out very un-nerving. The plastic captives are very aggressive. Also, in reinstalling, I find I need a third hand with really skinny fingers to keep all the bits alligned.
Any tricks or tips.. or am I the lab rat on this one?
I used a long flat wide screwdriver to pop the mirror off the main pivot.
I removed the plate from the actuators by prying them loose with a 0.062" wide screwdriver. I snapped the plate back onto the back of the mirror. This is the trick part the reinstallation.....
This what gave me all the trouble last time.
I put a little grease on the *****. Extended the actuator pivots as much as possible. Put the mirror up against the actator pivot ***** NOT the main mounting pivot. With the screwdriver, accessing the pivot ***** from the 2 o'clock position outside the mirror and reaching to the 8 o'clock position behind the mirror, pop the actuator pivots into the back of the mirror. Retract the actuators as much as possible. Allign and insert the vibration dampers in place. By pressing on the CENTER of the mirror, pop the main pivot into place.
Last time this took me a while, but this time it was 5 minutes.
