I reported earlier about the distortion or ghosting with the drivers
mirror. Well, heres what ford says. They ordered me a new mirror
and installed it. The new mirror was no better. I had the service manager
look at it and showed him the ghosting and he admitted seeing this. He
then went and got another f150 and we saw the same thing through
this mirror also. The ghosting shows up more when looking through
the outer 1/3 of the mirror. Ford was contacted again by the
service manager and Ford nows says this is normal.....a unclear
mirror thats driving me nuts.
If you want to check your mirror try looking through the outer
1/3 at a car several 100 yards behind you. Look closely at detail.
Does anyone have a idea about what to do next???
order the mirror glass from the XL or STX mirrors since they don't have the auto-dimming feature and pop that into your mirror housing. I assume you can change the glass only instead of swapping the entire mirror housing.
My Platinum has the dimming driver's side mirror and I don't notice any issues. I wouldn't say the outer 1/3 is distorted, it's just the outer 1/2-inch border of the mirror glass that looks funny. again, it's just 1/2-inch, not one-third of the entire mirror.
mine seem to be working fine. you can she the border of the auto dimming feature around the edge but thats expected. your not gonna see a car with just that much of your mirror.
I posted about this before, on my truck it is more than just the outside edge of the mirror. This is on my driver's mirror and the rear view mirror. Rear view is more a strip across the top 1/3 or so. Whether it is daytime running lights or lights at night from vehicles behind me, the image is blurry. On my long drive days it gets annoying but I'm trying not to let it bother me. My dealer doesn't seem too interested in making any changes.
I like the idea of switching out the glass. As long as I've got heated mirrors I don't care too much about the auto-dimming feature. Lived without it for many years.
I've seen the blurred image on the mirrors a few times. Annoying? Yup. But if the fixed is to replace the mirror with the same problem, how good can that be?
