Well, it seems I have made an enemy here in the apartment complex. Last time it was some one flipping the power switch at the junction box at the end of the building. Last night between 1am and 8am someone cut the Comcast cable going to my apartment. Didn't know it at first, thought it was a bad modem, so I took it back and exchanged it. However, the new modem did the same thing. So I waited for the tech guy to arrive, and he tells me the cable was crimped/cut right by the entrance to the apartment. Unreal.

Stay Safe Y’all, it’s getting hairy up here. The winds made for tough driving up the valley last night and saw a 600+ acre fire that evacuated Corning and had potential of shutting down I-5. We are not in a planned power outage location (surrounded) but are prepared though.

Harbor Freight has a leaf blower, which also vacuums, mulches, and bags the debris. Have any of;you guys tried something like that? I think a tool/toy like that could save me at least an hour of work, and back bending.

Harbor Freight is hit and miss, depending on what you're getting. I've had a few of each. Ones I remember:

  • IR temperature gun (miss)
  • Hydraulic swaging tool (hit)
Our power is still out. We run on generator during the daylight hours. Power went off around 8PM Saturday. We heard rumors that power might come back some time this morning. We shall see.

Be lucky that you are not in danger. No fire nearby.

Best thing I ever got from Harbor Freight is a set of drain plug sockets. They have magnets. Knock off of expensive GearWrench set. Works perfectly for oil changes.

I have not had a problem with anything I bought at HF. Although admittedly I have not bought much.

I agree with Harbor Freight being "hit or miss". I wouldn't stake my survival on that "survival knife" or machete. The suction cup shower grab bars are junk. Exceptional value is the cast iron pan set. I've used the $4 socket set for more than you could imagine. In my whole life, I've only broken 1 socket; it was from Harbor Freight. Lifetime Warranty. Replacement was not an issue. The breaker bar is a real value. The cheap drill lacks torque, has a terrible battery, but is just fine for building Ikea furniture, hanging pictures, et cetera. For those who do not know, there are adult novelty products which attach to, and work great, with the Harbor Freight reciprocating saw.

Discover Channel had a fake reality show sponsored by Harbor Freight. People were suppose to survive in a post apocalyptic world using Harbor Freight tools.

The Colony

The Colony is a reality television series that is produced by the Discovery Channel. The program follows a group of people who must survive in a simulated post-apocalyptic environment. Casting was done by Metal Flowers Media.

I use to own a vac/ blower , 1 it didn’t really pick up mulberry leaves , 2 I bagged most of the bark / wood chips and I think the neighbors Cat out of the flower garden,
harbor freight is good for ( I need it now but don’t want to pay Home Depot prices) kind of place , a few years ago my delta table saw took a dive in the back of my truck , the motor mount of all things was plastic, sooo harbor freight table saw it was, it’s ok , but the guide is Funky the way it locks down, I buy other thing from there and seems to be good , like my hardwood floor nailer haven’t let me down yet.

They're not tools of my trade. But the oscillating multi-tool and the angle grinder are great for about $10. I've been able to use them for the odd, small jobs. I get it though. If I needed tools like that for making a living, I would buy something better. The motors are not strong enough. They are heavy. No balance. Not my choice for precision work. But just good enough for me to be able to get away with it.

Our power came back on around 14:30 this afternoon. That's almost 43 hours since it went off Saturday. I have no clue if they are going to turn it off again tonight.

We're OK. We have a 15-year-old generator we got on sale from Home Depot way back when. It's a 10KW unit and we run it through a transfer switch. It's been getting quite the workout the last month or so as we're logging ~~ 16 hours of run time per day. If I can get to town, I will pick up filters and oil for it today. It's due.
