Looking to change my rear diff fluid.. does anyone know what type axle I have based on the picture??
I'm not sure what type fluid.. Another thing I can't find it.. Quantity?? How much do I need? I know I fill until it reaches the full Port, but I don't know how much I need to buy..
Also.. Does anyone know what that 2 inch tab is on about the 2oclock position under the bolt? Also.. there's another at the 7oclock position.. the bolts are worn pretty good.. Wondering if I should change those out..
Also a lot of guys will replace those covers with the stock aluminum ones from the 08+ which have better cooling and a slightly larger capacity...plus grab a set of stainless bolts anyway and if you don't like RTF you can just grab a lube locker gasket they work great

Awesome reference... Project complete.. but I messed up..
See pic.. the two o'clock bolt that contains one of those tabs.. I guess it was a weak bolt.. the torque wrench never stopped and the bolt broke. I'm thinking 11 out if 12 bolts will be fine??? Little frustrating..
What do you guys recommend here.. I'd prefer to not do this all over again.. I've never been very good at extracting broken bolts..
I'm thinking of just filling up with fluid and seeing if it leaks..I don't think it will .
It's a Ford 10.5 I use 85w140 regular gear oil in mine since I change it often, 75w140 is recommended for longer service intervals. The Supertech oil from Walmart is cheap and it works fine.
That one shouldn’t be hard to get out. I would try using just a flat head screw driver and pressing hard on what is left of the bolt. Some times a small punch and hammer can be used to start the bolt unscrewing.
08+ aluminum diff cover, new hardware and depending if you have an LSD in the diff you might need friction modifier for the clutches. Correct oil for our diffs is 75w140 I have good results with Royal Purple gear oil that had friction modifier, no clutch chatter (when going in reverse is more pronounce when the lsd starts to fail or has the wrong oil)
