While i was changing my rear differential fluid today, i noticed the fluid looked pretty black. much different from some other pictures ive seen when people change the fluid and it still looks golden brown. it was very thick and at the bottom of the case it was almost a solid, felt like pudding. was hardly any shavings on the fill plug
Filled upto the fill plug with Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W-140
Yeah thats dirty and looks like it probably has a bunch of spent friction material from LSD clutch pack. Mine was golden brown but you could see some friction material particulates in it when held up to the light. The 75-140 is very thick gear oil so its going to be a little gooey. Make sure you change the transfer case fluid. Mine was dirtier than I thought even with less than 35k on it.
Look's like at some point it got water in it. Not good, but if you see no unusual wear, and hear no unusual noises, you will prob be fine. You might want too have a look see, too see how it look's in a couple weeks, you may need another change or 2.

Mine had 60,000, on it, and I have limited slip, and mine looked like iced tea yet. I cross River's over the tires, play in mud alot, and trail ride (as much as you can in a stock crew cab). What your's looks like is not normal. I would atleast monitor it. I am pretty certain that you will have no problem's (as you don't now), But I would atleast suck a sample out, and look at it.
Check your Axle breather tube. Make sure it is up under the bed, and there is no crack's in it. Also check that antilock sensor thing on the pumpkin (vss) to make sure it is sealed.
Check for a plugged breather too. Sometimes bug's like too build nest's in them!
