because fords specs for alignment are very broad and most alignment techs are clueless how to tune a straight axle, they do what the computer tells them. you can make a Superdudy handle absolutely horrible snd still be in “in spec”. that is why i asked what yours is set at. give me your settings and i can make suggestions to make it handle like you want
Returning to center comes from the caster angle, that's the first thing I'd be checking. Many other things can mess with return, but without positive caster nothing else will fix the problem. Playing with the toe might help, might hurt, it's best to measure and set it rather than just giving it a random crank and driving for a week. A tape measure is all you need, having an assistant can help.
I would jack both sides of the front up and then disconnect the drag link from the Pittman arm, then grab the wheel and see hiw much force is required to turn the wheel side to side. When I installed Moog joints on my 01, then were tight for at least a 1000 miles. The are pretty sensitive to proper torque procedure as well. On my new build, I went with Spicer....like butter.

Thanks that’s good to know. We had tried to do that but for fear of wrecking the new tie rod we quit. It did not want to pop out. Maybe we’ll try again.

Please do. Camo builds his own suspensions for his off-road endeavors and racing, as well as his on-road daily driver rigs . He will get you straightened out.

Had a issue very similar after replacing everything on the front end of my 02. After researching I found that Ford changed the ball joints a while back to make them looser. I also had Moog ball joints only to find out after talking with a moog rep they are aware of the update Ford made however Moog has not modified there ball joints and stated they could be to tight and may require the OEM ball joints. After 2 sets of Moogs and 8 - 10k on each set I replaced them with OEM ball joints and the issue disappeared. Someone did post to check the stiffness with the tie rod disconnected. I would start there as your ball joints are either to tight or your alignment is at the lower end of the very wide ford specs.
