I’m at wits end! New to me truck. 01 7.3. Started with new tires. Shop said needs ball joints and tie rods to align. Fine done! Drives worse! Jumps across road while driving. Replaced shocks track bar other tie rod and drag link and steering shock. Well everything is quiet now! But it still drifts. Does not come back to center after a turn. Stays turning! Is something hung up or binding? Every person has a different opinion and I can’t just keep throwing money at the “might be” the problem. Thanks
It also sounds to me like your steering box has been tightened up too much. It's very sensitive to overtightening. Try backing it out a 1/4 turn and see if it makes an improvement in your return to center.
Update. Tonight after we did a tranny fluid change we decided to give the tie rod one twist for a little more toe in. It did seem to drive a little better! Going to try it for a week! Why wouldn’t the alignment shop catch that? Did they do a bad job? Can you screw it up at a shop? We even brought it back after. He said it was probably my gear box. Multiple mechanics said that was fine??
because fords specs for alignment are very broad and most alignment techs are clueless how to tune a straight axle, they do what the computer tells them. you can make a Superdudy handle absolutely horrible snd still be in “in spec”. that is why i asked what yours is set at. give me your settings and i can make suggestions to make it handle like you want
