Bohen, 40 pounds? Foot or inch? Foot would do it, I think the instructions are slightly less than 40 inch pounds which for me wasn't enough.

I used my calibrated hands and arm muscles to tighten my clamps with a 1/4" ratchet. Works great, no problems in 2 years with clamps nor hose nor leaks.

Sometimes OCD tends to rule when it isn't needed.
