I might be coming into some cash this winter and was thinking about the Klune-V exteam UNDERdrive system. Has anyone tried this with a Bronco? Is it something I can do myself? How much better is it to four wheel with a 10:1 T-Case (in effect)?
Iknow alot of ??? but it is alot of $$$.
A few points on the Klune V, If you have any kind of mechanical knowlege then you should have no problem putting in a Klune V. I bolts right in to the tranny and tcase. However, you will have to get the rear driveshaft shortened and the front lengthened. Another thing you will have to figure in the rear pinion angle due to the shorter rear drive shaft, this might cause you some problems. You might have to notch a crossmember for the front drive shaft to clear everything. One thing that may help you out is the fact that the Klune V can be clocked (rotated) to help with the driveline angles. With all that said, what do you plan on doing with all that low range? The Klune V, especially the 4:1 version are usually reserved to rock crawlers. If you do install a Klune V, it would be a very good idea to beef up your axles, ujoints, etc. Let me know how everything turns out, I plan on putting one under my bronco eventually. Hope this helps.
Sweet Let me know how it works out for you. Would you be able to take pictures as you go along?? This would help out anyone else that plans to do this to their Bronco in the future.
Good Luck,
I will work on the pics.. they might help in getting it all back together again. One other question... The Klune-V site sugjests that there might be a way to reduce the averall lenght of transmission-transfercase by changing the adapter between the two, It looks like there is a 6"? adapter between mine do you know if it is a part of either or could i get the shorter version from Klune.. I will certantly check with them befor I proceed.
thanks
JASONBROD, a Klune-V is much like a dual t-case it multiplies the gear reduction of the vehicle by eather 2.7 times or 4 times. It will give those of us who want to take our "oversized trucks" into more extream areas, by allowing us to go much slower without frying our clutches (i am on my second in 50,000 miles). there are sites that discribe it better than I just search Klune-v.
If you get a Shorter tranny to tcase mount you will need a shorter tail shaft in the tranny as well Not sure if you really want to go down that road...
