Back with 11 qts of new tranny fluid and the store manager told me to save the old trans fluid and put it back in. Also was not able to tell me that 11 qts included torque converter.

Any experience with this method?

Whats the part number on the e4od shaft and where can I buy one?
How many hours do you estimate start/finish replacement for you?
Will start another thread for e4od shaft replacement after this.

So you can see what you'd be getting into, here is a good thread with a lot of pics: E4OD rebuild

Post #6 picture captioned " Next pull the overdrive planetary and ring gear", you can see the end of the center shaft.

This is what the part looks like. This also includes the updated roller bearing to replace the bushing in your early model trans. Although the bearing may have been updated on the last rebuild.

If you had the trans on the bench, tear down is quick.

I guess the parts Guy is referring to the tale that if you replace old ATF with a lot of miles on it,with new ATF the trans will go out on ya?

DO NOT put the old ATF back in the trans. dump it in the waste oil tank, or on an IDI that is used off road you can dump it in the fuel tank after filtering it and burn it in the engine.
a plus of burning the ATF is it will also help clean the injectors and injector pump.

What’s the benefit of dumping it on an idi used off road?
Will a paint filter be good enough for the fuel tank method? Seems like a good idea to clean the injectors and pump.

off road use because if you are in a state where they dip the fuel tanks, ATF will tint the fuel red which is a BIG fine for running off road fuel on road. also called tax evasion.

paint strainer will work fine, all you are doing is filtering out any metal shavings the trans may have put into the fluid.
i have used cheese cloth, and coffee filters in a pinch too.
i would not recommend the coffee filter though, took forever to pass through it, and i had to heat it up to get it to filter.

Picked up another 4wd diesel c6 today.
Came with the VRV, flywheel, adapter plate, torque converter and a deep fluid pan.
missing the shifting linkage and the electrical piece on shifting shaft (?) left side.
the trans fluid lines are perfect and the dipstick/tube is solid. Both of these are compromised with c6 #1.
Future possibilities for it with my F350 2wd or another e4od swap.

The story on this c6
It was swapped with a zf5 and had a rebuild 10k miles.
heated up and stopped working. Cooled down and worked again. The fluid is dark with a hint of red.
the torque converter looks new. The fluid is almost black.

any reason not to use this c6 instead of c6 #1 that was reportedly working fine until the engine blew a rod?

Also..
is there a flush procedure for the torque converter or just empty and install?
thinking of using this one with c6 #1 after changing the lines and dipstick/tube over.
