The tank is clean of rust the problem is small pieces of tar stuck to inside of tank. Bottom of tank was covered in it when I got the truck. Cleaning and pressure washing removed 99% of it. But all it takes is one small chunk to block pickup tube. If there was a sock on factory tank pickup it’s long gone. My boss said it’s is what’s left over from old leaded gasoline, wouldn’t know that was before my time I’m 26.
I was thinking of installing one of these but very $$. I will stick with screen for now. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-16-108/
Holly HydraMat I saw at sema last year, looked like it worked well in demo.
Replaced the 1 3/4 muffler and tail pipe I can’t believe it would be that small for a v8. The y pipe up to the muffler is 2 1/2. Possible a tail pipe and muffler for a six cylinder truck? I went with a dynomax ultraflow #17230 stainless 2 1/2 fit great in factory location and sounds good. Ran a single 2 1/2 in tail pipe and stainless tip I purchased all from summit for $100 delivered.
My power steering ram started leaking not a big surprise cylinder is pitted from sitting. I still have not decided on rebuilding my cylinder or converting to the 78-79 4x4 4 bolt steering box. I can get rebuilt cylinder from blue top for around $300 or find a 78-79 4x4 box. I have a 2wd box off my 73 f250 but I have heard mixed reviews on installing them on highboy’s, (Bench works). Dose anybody have any experience with using the 2wd box?
Im looking at replacing my behind the seat tank, im sure that will be a 'plug and play' scenario im sure some fella on you-tube did it in 20 minutes ! oh and there never was a screen sock on the pickup tube for the behind the seat tanks, no filter until the pump and the sending unit does nothing more than take a reading for the fuel gauge, its not sending anything....
Replaced the passenger side exhaust manifold gasket that started leaking. Drove the truck to the store, I think I finally fixed all of the exhaust leaks. The new steering ram is working great and no more leaks.

Just double checking, you bought the blue top parts right? Can't remember if it was you or someone else but did you buy the steering gear too?
I'm still on the fence with having bluetop fix mine up or give in and "upgrade" to the 78/79 steering
I know a lot of people use them with success, but I've never had any exhaust gaskets on any of my Fords and they've sealed up just fine.
I remember my surprise when I removed the manifolds from my Bronco to do a valve job and discovered that there were no gaskets! Same with the 400 in my '79.
Put 'em back that way and never had an issue. Same for other Windsors and 335's I've worked on. No FE's though...
I wonder what percentage used gaskets and what percentage did not.

I only needed the cylinder replaced it was severely pitted from sitting a long time. Blue top was great shipped part the next day. So far the rest of my steering system is in good shape. Ram assist works fine on my truck but I am running 7.5 in wide tires. I could see it being a problem with wider tires. If you need to replace your entire system and plan on running bigger tires probably better off just swapping to 78/79 box. Just the cylinder it self is $290 plus shipping and $45 for the bushing set that goes on the ram. If you’re box and control valve needs rebuilt it’s probably cheaper to upgrade.
Onetonbasecamp, My cylinder head is pitted around exhaust ports. Also the poorly designed passenger side exhaust manifold with a very narrow sealing surface. I should have had the machine shop resurface the exhaust ports and manifolds when I had it apart. My other truck with the 351m has a lot more sealing surface around exhaust ports and did not have manifold gaskets from the factory. If your cylinder heads and manifolds are in good shape you’re probably better off not using gaskets.
