Time to get rid of my '98 while keeping the '99. Both have alloys. The 99, with 16" wheels does have the tow package but I don't do any significant towing. Any good reason or advantage to swapping/keeping the 17" wheels instead of the 16"?
tire size should be slightly different so that the OD of the tire is the same............ diameter of rim is personal preference... I would keep the ones that look the best / clear finish / nicks - damage
Like mentioned, 16s are going out of style and it was kinda tough to readily find 255/70/16s last year. The 17s actually the same rolling diameter with the (IIRC...) 275/60/17 tires. I almost gave in to the urge to get some FX4 wheels, but really wasn’t fond of replacing what would likely be rotted tires at that point.
I recently switched to 17" as I got a set off an expedition with practically new tires for less than I would have gotten a set of new tires alone for the 16"s. Honestly haven't noticed any difference in ride - other than the new tires having way more traction than the old ones.
I have a 99 f150 2wd extended cab
it has the factory 16 inch rims.. but it seems there are way more 17 inch tires available in my area.. Soooo... I am wondering if there are 17 inch rims off something else, like a dodge or something, that will fit on my F150..??
For those of you that do a lot of off-roading Gateway is making the old-time buckshot again.
The kicker is they will only come in 15" and 16" size and they are not radial but bias tires.
They are the old-time ones as I have a set under my 1999 f150 and they pull great and sing a song even on dirt roads.
For those that don't know what Bias tires are: it means NO steal belts and they are hard to balance and will ride ruff for about 3-4 miles before they even out.
Did I tell you they will SING to you?
