you can see the orange sealpeeking out at the top of the filter housing. I don't think this is right!
i tried pushing it as much as one should probably push. i fear i'll crack the filter housing if i push any harder. the old seal is out. It did take some effort and muscle to get it out, but not nearly as much as i'm applying when trying to push the new one in. is there some trick here? this is a napa part. i already ordered an oem from the local stealership.

Reason: spelling
Did you compare the length of the filler neck to that on your old filter?
Yes, while the new one was still in the NAPA plastic to keep it cleen, the filter looked identical from what i could tell, but i didn't bust out a micrometer or anything. in the picture you can see that the orange seal is peaking out of the neck hole a little bit, how far up is the seal supposed to go? i would have thought it would go far enough up that it would be difficult to have it peek over the shoulder like that.
you try putting new filter in without o-ring, to see if it would go all the way in, or try putting the old filter back in without o-ring see if its easier? May need to bust out a micrometer, I did, first one I got was egg shape some, kept rolling o-ring out
