So I’m a little worried about the L&L engine mounts in my F350 pulling apart and cracking my new C6. It is “the weak link”, aluminum between iron block and iron t-case. Does anybody have any experience with torque straps? Good or bad. I’m not worried about vibration, this truck is not driven on the street. Something like this.
Can't hurt. Easy to fab up. I had to do this with a built 351c in a cougar years ago, ripped the motor mount in half and broke the fan and shroud twice. A torque strap, which was nothing more than a piece of chain at that time, cured it.
My 400 in my f250 had some shredded motor and transmission mounts when I changed them last summer, and the trans the trans rocks around a lot in the tunnel. I’ve also read a couple times here not to engine brake in our trucks for fear of tearing a mount.
Would something like the chain mentioned above have any drawbacks? I’d image that chain would transfer less vibration than heims and a metal rod.
I'd say if you are worried about your motor mounts failing, don't fix it with duct tape approach of that brace. I replaced mine when I redid my motor a few years ago (forget the brand) and they are beefy as heck. Of course they we're cheap. If you want cheap, just use a chain, bolt to block and frame.
Not sure if your truck is 4x4 or not, but I've thrown around the idea of putting one on the transfer case. I know the highboys with divorced transfer cases had them. Figure it couldnt hurt for towing. When my truck was a 4 speed I could tell the drive train was twisting because the shifter handle would move quite a bit under heavy loads. I've seen some off roaders put the extra brace on the transfer case.

Not all Highboy's had them, I believe only the later ones did but yeah I thought about adding it to mine too. Accidentally sold a frame that had one attached, meant to take it off first
I plan on redoing my motor mounts in the near future, but for now I have enough parts to do the strap. I was just worried it would make it too stiff, but I can’t find any accounts of that.

Anything that helps keep the engine where it belongs is a good thing. As long as it's not street-driven you probably won't notice more vibrations due to the relatively solid link between engine and frame. Of course you could always put a thick piece of rubber under the frame mounted end.

Yea, the L&L mounts are going to pull apart. Mine were about 2 years old when I took them out. They are junk. Get The other style with the through bolt. Lots of places are selling them now. I got mine from West Coast Bronco. I wouldn't put a bar like that on, I'll bet that will break loose no time if it's solid without rubber bushings.
